Joseph Blount Cheshire, IV, was born in Raleigh in 1918. He received an undergraduate degree from UNC in 1939 and a law degree in 1941 from UNC School of Law. In this interview he speaks about his military experience in the U.S. Army and working in Raleigh in a general practice firm (focusing on civil practice). He mentions notable clients like the Continental Can Company (later becoming the conglomerate Continental Group, Inc.) and the N.C. Hospital Trust Fund. He also discusses serving on the grievance committee of the State Bar Council and as a member of the group that codified the state’s statutes into the official General Statutes of North Carolina. He reflects on the legal community in Wake County and about colleagues over the years who particularly influenced his life.
