Jerry W. Leonard was born on October 4, 1945 in Newport News, Va., and moved soon after with his family to Raleigh. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and discusses some of his experiences while there, including hearing Robert Kennedy speak and studying abroad in Germany. In this interview he recollects his experiences at UNC School of Law. He goes on to describe his experiences in a federal clerkship and then in private practice. Leonard also recounts his experiences working as an administrator for Wake County Legal Aid and his time spent on the judicial bench. Finally, Leonard reflects on the importance of alternative dispute resolution in legal practice.
