Katherine “Katie” Holliday was born in Brevard, N.C., and raised in Charlotte. In this interview Holliday tells of her upbringing with parents who greatly influenced her through their dedication to civil rights. She recounts experiences during 1970s integration which ultimately led to her attending Duke Law School after receiving her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University. She explains that her experiences as a teacher and counselor (immediately after graduating from college) prepared her to practice, primarily, juvenile law in Charlotte beginning in 1981. Other topics include her clerkship for Judge McMillan, involvement in juvenile legal advocacy through the Justice for Children Task Force and the Children’s Law Center, and the importance of role-modeling in the legal profession.
