E.D. Gaskins, Jr.

E.D. Gaskins, Jr., born in 1941 in New Bern, N.C., graduated with an undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University in 1963 and then attended Duke Law School. He describes his experiences during the civil rights era, service during the Vietnam War as an intelligence officer, and his professional relationship with Terry Sanford. In particular, he speaks about an early case in his career, Fast v. Gulley [155 S.E.2d 507, 271 N.C. 208 (1967)]. Mr. Gaskins practiced law in downtown Raleigh with a few different firms (including Adams & McCullough, which eventually merged with Charlotte-based Parker Poe) beginning in 1966.
